History and Vision of the University

Aydın Adnan Menderes University was established on July 3, 1992, in Aydın under Law No. 3837. It began education with five faculties (Science and Literature, Nazilli Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Medicine, Veterinary, and Agriculture), three institutes, and two schools. The university is named after former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes. Currently led by Rector Prof. Dr. Bülent Kent (since 2022), the university adopts the vision of “scientific leadership and social contribution.” Its mission is to train questioning and innovative individuals loyal to Atatürk’s principles. With approximately 47,000 students (YÖK Atlas, 2022–2023), the university ranked in the 801–1000 band in the Times Higher Education 2025 rankings. It is a leader in the fields of agriculture, health, and tourism.

Education

Aydın Adnan Menderes University offers a wide academic spectrum with 16 faculties: Medicine, Engineering, Science, Literature, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Education, Theology, Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, Fine Arts, Tourism, Veterinary, Agriculture, Communication, Nursing, and Human and Social Sciences. The university also has 3 institutes (Science, Health, Social Sciences), 1 conservatory, 4 schools, and 19 vocational schools. There are more than 200 undergraduate and 250 graduate programs. Medicine and Engineering stand out with English-medium instruction. Around 2,000 academic staff deliver both theoretical and practical education. Campus and Technological Infrastructure

The university’s main campus is located in Kepez, Efeler district, spanning 1,500 acres. Additional campuses are located in districts like Nazilli, Söke, and Didim. The university has a total of 350,000 m² of indoor space, equipped with high-speed internet and smart classrooms. The library holds over 200,000 printed resources and more than one million digital publications, with a seating capacity of 1,500. The Faculty of Medicine is integrated with the Training and Research Hospital. The Technopark strengthens cooperation with industry. Dormitories

Aydın Adnan Menderes University provides dormitory options in cooperation with KYK. Around the main campus and in Aydın, there are over 10,000 beds available. Rooms accommodate 2 to 6 students and include beds, wardrobes, desks, and internet access. Dormitories have laundry rooms, kitchens, and study areas. They are secured by 24/7 camera systems and cleaned regularly. On-site canteens meet students’ daily needs. Applications are made through KYK’s online system, with priority given to scholarship recipients. Private dormitories are also available as alternatives.

Social Life

Aydın Adnan Menderes University offers a vibrant social life. The main campus stands out with green spaces, sports fields, and a peaceful atmosphere. Sports facilities include basketball, volleyball, and fitness areas; university teams participate in tournaments. Dining halls serve daily meals, and a “Suspended Meal” solidarity system is in place. With over 100 student clubs (such as Music, Theatre, and Outdoor Sports), concerts, and the annual Spring Festival, campus life is lively. On-campus cafes and markets meet students’ needs. Aydın Adnan Menderes University hosts nearly 700 international students from over 50 countries. The International Relations Office offers visa support and orientation programs. The university’s Training and Research Hospital offers healthcare with a capacity of 600 beds. The on-campus Health Center provides check-ups and emergency care, with 24/7 ambulance service. Security is ensured 24/7 with personnel and camera systems; campus entrances and exits are monitored. Regular fire drills are conducted, and all buildings have emergency exits. The campus offers high standards in both health and safety.

Transportation

The university’s main campus is 5 km from the city center. Transportation is convenient via municipal buses, minibuses, and on-campus shuttle services. Bicycle paths and parking lots are available. The campus is 90 km from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and 7 km from the main bus terminal; public transport is discounted. Nazilli and Söke campuses are also easily accessible via local transportation networks.
